PotashCorp Gives $100,000 to Creative Kids For Third Year

MAY 26, 2014

(Regina, SK) – This weekend, PotashCorp announced its continued support of the Creative Kids Program, providing a $100,000 sponsorship for the third year in a row. Lee Knafelc, Vice President, Human Resources and Administration, PotashCorp, presented the cheque to Creative Kids at the RCMP Charity Gala Fundraiser held May 24, 2014 in Regina.

“As a company, we appreciate that building healthy, culturally vibrant communities starts by giving young people opportunities. By exploring their creative talents through music, dance, art and self-expression, Creative Kids provides children with the right opportunity for each child,” said Lee Knafelc, PotashCorp’s Vice President, Human Resources and Administration. “We also know that children who become active in arts and culture do better in other subjects at school as they gain confidence and transferrable skills. At PotashCorp, we strive to make the communities where we operate a better place for everyone – and that includes the youngest among us.”

Modelled after the successful KidSport™ program, Creative Kids removes financial barriers for kids who want to participate in creative activities such as learning a musical instrument, becoming part of a choir, joining a dance troupe or exploring their creative potential through art or culture activity. This program has already made a difference in the lives of close to 3,000 kids facing financial barriers in over 120 communities throughout the province.

Creative Kids is a program of SaskCulture, which provides all of the administration and operation funding to the program. By receiving operation funding from SaskCulture, Creative Kids is able to direct 100 per cent of all funds raised back to the families of children and youth who apply for funding to participate in quality art and cultural activities. This is the first program of its kind in Canada.

James Ingold, president, SaskCulture, said, “We are thrilled to have PotashCorp sponsor Creative Kids. This generous contribution helps ensure all kids, no matter their financial and social circumstances, have the chance participate in cultural activities and explore their creative potential. We started this program to meet a recognized need in the community, and as Creative Kids gets more well-known, and with the support of those like PotashCorp, our ability to serve that need continues to grow.”

Individuals and businesses in Saskatchewan are encouraged to donate to Creative Kids. Please visit or contact the provincial office toll free at 1-855-277-9469 for more information on donation and sponsorship opportunities.
